A standard IDP is valid for 1 year from the date it was issued — not from the date you arrive abroad, and not from when your trip begins.
This means if you get your IDP in January and travel in August, your IDP expires the following January — covering multiple trips in the same year if needed.

The IDP Cannot Outlast Your License
An IDP's validity can never exceed the expiry date of your underlying driver's license. If your license expires in 8 months and you apply for a 3-year IDP, the IDP is only valid for 8 months. Always check your license expiry before applying.
The 6-Month Application Window
You cannot apply for an IDP more than 6 months before your desired effective date.
Is There a Renewal Process?
No — IDPs cannot be renewed. When yours expires, you submit a fresh application with fresh documents (including a new photo taken within 6 months). The process is identical to your original application.
