The 6-Month Rule
This is the most commonly missed requirement. Every IDP application requires a photo taken within the last 6 months. Old photos — even from a previous IDP — cannot be reused.
Where to Get Your Photo
- Walgreens / CVS / Walmart — $10–$17, printed in minutes, meets all IDP specs
- Online provider built-in tool — most reputable providers guide you through taking a compliant digital photo
- Smartphone camera — fully acceptable if well-lit, white background, correct framing
Common Mistakes That Delay Processing
- Photo more than 6 months old
- Wearing glasses
- Patterned or colored background
- Face not fully visible or obscured by hair/shadow
- Photo too small or face not filling the frame
- Heavy filters or editing applied
Yes — if taken within the last 6 months. Passport photos and IDP photos have identical requirements.
Yes. Use good natural lighting, a plain white wall, and have someone else take it so your face fills the frame correctly.
